Vilnius is an important cultural center, having numerous museums and over 20 art galleries. Its streets are filled with stores, restaurants, bars, nightclubs, and hotels.
The capital is a medieval city with a baroque and gothic architecture. Its historic downtown is one of the largest in Europe, with a surface of 3.6 square kilometers. In the old downtown there are over 1,500 buildings, built in different architectural styles.
