Republic of Macedonia is a country located in the heart of the Balkans, bordering Bulgaria, Serbia, Greece and Albania. From the north and west, the easiest way to reach the country is through Serbia, and from the east, through Greece and Bulgaria. This country has remained largely a hidden treasure - a natural paradise of mountains, lakes and rivers, with a different rhythm of life in the midst of greatness historical ruins and idyllic villages that have remained unchanged for centuries. Macedonians are friendly and love partying with music, food and drink.Much of the old architecture of the capital Skopje was damaged during an earthquake in 1963, but the city was rebuilt, today being a thriving metropolis. You can visit parts of the historic center, which include a medieval fortress and Ottoman-style bazaar. Ohrid is a big attraction in the south-west region. This medieval town is situated in a beautiful landscape on the lake, surrounded by mountains and has the best collection of icons. Mavrovo mountain resort offers activities throughout the year - skiing, hiking, mountain biking. Galichnik, a nearby village hosts a folk festival each year which brings to stage a traditional wedding. Carnivals are also held in Strumica and Vevchani.
