Lisbon is the capital of Portugal and is located on the West Coast, at the Atlantic Ocean, where Tejo River runs into the ocean. The heart of the city is Baixa, also known as the Lower City, where the Castle of Sao Jorge, the Santa Maria Maior Cathedral, Jeronimos Monstery, built from King Manuel I’s wish. The Castle of Sao Jorge is built on the highest hill in the city, Convento do Carmo. Lisbon has a nice advantage in that its near surroundings have many monuments and tourist attractions. Among them is the National Palace in Sintra. A place just as beautiful in South Portugal is Algarve, also known as the Island of Eternal Spring; exotic region which greets you with white houses, with specific chimneys, terraces filled with flowers, palm trees, narrow streets, but also modern buildings and districts with villas.
